Harold A. Bridges, a cherished educator, esteemed community member, and devoted family man, passed away peacefully in Spartanburg, South Carolina, on March 24, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on October 11, 1946, he was the son of the late L.M. (Pete) Bridges & Lucille G. Bridges.

Harold’s teaching career flourished primarily within Districts 6 and 7, where he made a profound impact on countless students. Notably, he played an instrumental role in establishing the Dutchman Correctional Institution Adult Education Program, demonstrating his commitment to education during challenging times.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Harold was a passionate reader and writer. He also had a deep-rooted interest in ancestry, which allowed him to connect with his family's history, and he cherished the moments spent at his favorite reading spot, Barnes & Noble.

Harold's proudest accomplishments extend well beyond the classroom. He served as Chairman at the now-defunct Spartanburg County Boys Home, reflecting his dedication to nurturing youth. His engagement with the Masonic community included being a member at Arcadia and Forest View Masonic Lodge, where he earned the distinction of Master Mason. Additionally, Harold served as an Elder at Covenant Presbyterian Church, guiding and supporting his congregation with wisdom and grace. He was also actively involved on the board of Wofford for their Lifelong Learning Program and held the position of Past President at the Council of Aging.

Survivors include his wife Cynthia Phillips Bridges; daughter, Ginger Lynne Bridges; his sister, Carolyn B. Bridges (Ronnie); his brother, Ron Bridges, and his loving dog, Joey. He was predeceased by his parents, L.M. (Pete) Bridges & Lucille G. Bridges. 

Harold’s legacy will be honored at a memorial service at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 880 W O. Ezell Blvd, Spartanburg, SC 29301, with a visitation following in the parlor. Service will be conducted by the Rev. Preston Edmonds.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 880 W O.
