Harley Lee Thompson, 83, of Spartanburg, died Thursday, April 23, 2009, at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born March 7, 1926, in Emanuel County, GA, he was the son of the late George and Shelly Canady Thompson. He relocated to Spartanburg from Atlanta, GA, in 1964, to help establish and manage the Mead Containers plant, where he retired in 1990. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, and a former Mason. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ann Greenway Thompson; a daughter, Deborah Cone and her husband Dallas, a son, David Thompson, and three grandchildren, Dallas Cone, IV, Meredith Cone, and Amanda Cone, all of Spartanburg; a brother, Ralph Thompson of Swainsboro, GA; and three sisters, Betty Elrod of Goldsboro, NC, Imogene James of Virginia Beach, VA, and Sara Barfield of Loganville, GA. He was predeceased by two brothers, Tyrus and Jim Thompson. Visitation will be 1:00-2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2009, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel conducted by the Rev. Dr. Donald J. Wilton and the Rev. Sal Barone. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
