H. Pryor

H. William "Bill" Pryor was born March 15, 1939; son of the late Floyd Brown Pryor, Sr. and Eva Hord Pryor. Bill was married to Betty Carruth Pryor for 54 years. He graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1957 and was employed by USDA, Soil Conservation Service for 16 years. During that time, he completed a management course in Hyattsville, Maryland and was subsequently appointed as head of the Mosaic division. Prior to his retirement, he was owner and manager of Phil Brook Team Sports. He was appointed Magistrate for Spartanburg County in 1995. Mr. Pryor was a member of Second Presbyterian Church and had served on the diaconate. He was involved in organizing and coaching numerous youth sports activities in the church and the community. He coached Little League and Pony League Baseball for the City of Spartanburg and the YMCA. For more than 25 years, he was a member of the South Carolina High School Basketball Officials' Association, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Association, and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, refereeing in high schools and small colleges across South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia. In 1992, he was inducted into the South Carolina Amateur Softball Association (ASA) Hall of Fame. In addition, he was inducted into the South Carolina Basketball Officials' Association Hall of Fame in Columbia, SC in 2010. He is survived by two sons: Phillip Barry Pryor, his wife Lynne and their three children: Phillip Hayes Pryor, William Griffin Pryor and Laura Frances Pryor; and by son, Michael Brooks Pryor, MD, his wife Suzanne, and their sons, Hugh Hampton Pryor and James Ferguson Pryor. He is also survived by three nephews and one niece. He was predeceased by two brothers, Floyd Brown Pryor, Jr. and Joseph Franklin Pryor, and a sister, Evelyn Pryor McIntyre. Visitation will be 10:00 - 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Second Presbyterian Church, 438 North Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29303. A memorial service will follow at 11:30 AM at the church, conducted by the Rev. David B. Howell.
