Gordon Wilson

Gordon Wayne Wilson, 80, of Spartanburg, SC, moved to his eternal home Sunday, October 19, 2014, at Eden Terrace Assisted Living. Born September 3, 1934, in Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late Walter Decatur Wilson and Nellie Ruth McGuinn Wilson, and husband of the late Julia "Judy" Drake Wilson. A U. S. Air Force veteran, Mr. Wilson was a member of Tyger River Presbyterian Church and retired from Kusters Zima Corporation. He was a member of St. Johns Masonic Lodge #333, Hejaz Shriners, and Hillbilly Clan #2. He was the beloved father of daughters, Vanessa Wilson Ponder Smith (Richard) of Moore, SC, and Jacquelyn Wilson Griffith (Barry) of Anderson, SC; step-daughter, Valerie Ianuario (Chris) of Reidville, SC; step-son, Layton Langston III of Spartanburg, SC; six grandchildren, Matthew Wilson, Johnny Ponder Jr., Katherine Ponder, Chelsea Griffith, Alexander Smith, and Caroline Smith; two step-grandchildren, Cameron and Logan Ianuario; sister, Joanne Creel of Spartanburg, SC; and brother, Kenneth Barry Wilson of Spartanburg, SC. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by three brothers, Walter Decatur Wilson Jr., Ivan Earl Wilson Sr., and Arthur Coleman Wilson; and four sisters, Kathleen Wilson Stepp, Margaret Elizabeth Epton, Carol Delores Hogan, and Mary Frances Wilson. Funeral services, with Masonic rites by St. Johns Masonic Lodge #333, will be conducted at 2:30 PM, Thursday, October 23, 2014, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by Chaplain Gary Jordan. Visitation will follow the services at the chapel. The family wishes to give special thanks to his beloved niece, Angie Hughes, special caregivers, Martha Kirby and Earlene Koonce-Triplett, and many wonderful caring staff at Eden Terrace.
