Gordon Franklin Oran lost his battle to pulmonary fibrosis on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, in Spartanburg, SC. He was the twelfth child born to Willis and Kitty Johnson Oran on November 28, 1936 and the last remaining member of his immediate family in Sweetwater, TN. Gordon attended the area schools in Sweetwater, TN, graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN, and served in the Army National Guard in Tennessee and Delaware. He retired from Hoechst Celanese (Auriga Polymers Inc.) as an Industrial/Packaging Engineer at the Spartanburg, SC plant with Corporate Headquarters in Charlotte, NC. Gordon was a world traveler with his company. An avid member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Gordon served as chairman of trustees, building and grounds, was active in the Methodist Men's Mission projects and a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Janet Cooper Oran; son, Scott Oran (Laura) of Spring, TX; daughter, Melissa Jabbour (Elias) of Kennesaw, GA; grandchildren, Cameron and Loran Hall of Kennesaw, GA, Courtney and Madison Oran of Spring, TX; step-granddaughter, Alexis Jabbour of Kennesaw, GA, and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by six brothers, five sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. John L. Warren, Jr. The family will receive friends following the service. Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, May 13, 2017, in Lynnhurst Cemetery, 2300 W. Adair Dr., Knoxville, TN 27918.
