Spartanburg, SC

Gloria Hohenstreiter Massey, 92, of Spartanburg, passed away early Saturday morning, October 5, 2024, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Gloria was born October 8, 1931, in Seymour, IN, a daughter of the late John William Carl and Gladys Jane Bowman Hohenstreiter. She was married to the late Herman Koontz Massey. Along with her husband and parents, Gloria was also predeceased by a son, James Arthur “Jimmie” Fleetwood, and 5 brothers and 1 sister.

Gloria’s deep love for her family was surpassed only by her love for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she was a member of the “On the Go” group.

Gloria’s love of children led her to a career of 25 years as owner and director of the Red Wagon Play School. She was a former President and Secretary/Treasurer of the Spartanburg County Day Care Association.

Gloria and Herman loved to travel and visited 47 states, Canada, Nova Scotia, Mexico, and many islands in the Caribbean Sea. She was definitely a “people person” and leaves behind many friends who remember her lovely smile and outgoing personality.

Surviving is her daughter, Nicolee Jane Fleetwood Coggins (Dennis) of Irmo, SC; her sons, Brian Joseph Fleetwood (Diane) of Bostic, NC and Bradley Jay Fleetwood (Anna) of Campobello, SC; her daughter-in-law, Caroline Pryor Fleetwood of Campobello, SC; her grandchildren, Brandon Coggins (Amy), Colby Coggins (Sarah), Matthew Fleetwood (Ann), Tyler Fleetwood, Graham Enloe (Jennifer), Ben Enloe (Erin), Cole Garrison, and Stephanie Wood (Case); her great-grandchildren, Essa and Lucia Coggins, Daniel and Elizabeth Coggins, Arianna and Brantley Enloe, Landen and Evelyn Enloe, Crew, Beau, and Chip Wood, Wren, Riley and Harmon Fleetwood; and her sister, Greta Hansen (Hank).

The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A private burial for the family members will be held at Fort Prince Memorial Gardens, 126 Fort Prince Road, Wellford, SC 29385.
