Glenn Livingston Gowan, 84, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, August 31, 2014, at his home. Born April 30, 1930, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Cecil L. and Hettie Lynch Gowan. Mr. Gowan was a veteran of the U. S. Army from 1953-1955 at Fort Jackson, SC with duties as a principal instructor on the Regimental Faculty. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg and was a graduate of the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. He was also a Broker in Charge at Redwine Fraley Gowan Real Estate, Broker in Charge and Chief Appraiser at Gowan Appraisal Service from 1981-present. Mr. Gowan served in various committees on the Spartanburg Board of Realtors. He was the president of the Multiple Listing Service, Board President in 1980 and was Elected Realtor of the Year in 1979. He also served in various committees for the South Carolina Chapter Appraisal Institute, serving three separate, three-year terms as Director and was Regional Director for Region IX, which covered six southern states. In addition to his wife of 52 years, Ogreeda Case Gowan, survivors include two children, "Sport" Glenn L. Gowan, Jr. and wife Cathy of Spartanburg, SC, and "Libba" Elizabeth Gowan Borbely and husband Michael of Jacksonville, FL; and three grandchildren, Graham Gowan, Brittany Borbely, and Brianna Borbely. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by the Rev. Robert C. Morgan. Burial with military rites by the U. S. Army Honor Guard will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. The family will receive friends at the home following the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals Service, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
