Gladys Odell Manis Owensby, 86, of Spartanburg, went home to be with her Lord, Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born April 12, 1926, in Rogersville, TN, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Edward and Christtie Annie Snapp Manis, and widow of David Fate Owensby. Mrs. Owensby was retired from J. P. Stevens Corp. in Jonesville and was formerly with Pacolet Manufacturing. She was a member of Resurrection Baptist Church of Cowpens, a master puzzle solver, a talented seamstress, and great cook. She was devoted to her Lord, loved all of her family, always found the good in people, and never spoke an unkind word. Survivors include her daughter, Shirley Ann Smith and husband Paul of the home; sons, Dennis "Hank" Owensby and wife Patty of Spartanburg, Roger Dean Owensby of Pacolet, Danny Ray Owensby of Pauline, Jimmy Dean Owensby and wife Louise of Pacolet, and Thomas Douglas Owensby and wife Dianne of Pacolet; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruby Lipsey of Cross Hill, SC; and brothers, Dallas E. Manis and wife Merle of Chapin, SC, and T. J. Manis of Montgomery, AL. She was predeceased by a grandchild; a great-grandchild; a daughter-in-law, Sylvia N. Owensby; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Manis. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Floyd's Pacolet Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, April 27, 2012, at Floyd's Pacolet Chapel, by her Pastor, the Rev. Joey Wampler. Burial will be in Pacolet Memorial Gardens. The family is at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley & Paul Smith, 120 Johnson Lake Road, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
