Gladys Henry

Gladys League Henry, 95, of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at White Oak Estates Spartanburg. Born August 6, 1926 in Greenville County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Roy and Annie Sue Ashmore League and the wife of the late Chandler Gordon Henry, Sr. She spent a happy childhood with her brother, Lawrence Crayton League in Travelers Rest, SC.

Gladys graduated from Travelers Rest High School and earned her bachelor’s from Winthrop College. During her practice teaching in Cowpens, SC, she met and later married Chandler Gordon Henry, Sr. Gladys and Gordon raised four children: Carol, Talmadge, Charles, and Chandler.

A faithful member of Salem United Methodist Church, she found great peace and happiness in this church community. A charter member of the Town and Country Garden Club, she is still loved and now missed by these friends.

Her greatest joy in life was in her children, four grandchildren, and six great- grandchildren. Gladys lived her life with great dignity in happiness and sadness and will be missed.

Survivors includer her children, Carol Ann Henry Snipes (Calvin) of Pickens, SC, Talmadge League Henry of Mauldin, SC, and Charles Robert Henry (Chapman) of Cowpens, SC; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Ashmore Snipes-Rochester, Mary Jessica Lange (Jacob), Chase Henry (Mary Bouyea), and Chandler Henry (McKayla), six great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Bertie Lou McSpadden League. Along with her parents and husband, was also preceded by a son, Chandler Gordon Henry, Jr. and her brother, Lawrence Crayton League.

A Cryptside service will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 9, 2022 in Daniel Morgan Memorial Gardens, 175 Cemetery Street, Cowpens, SC 29330, conducted by The Rev. Wayne Major and speaker, Elizabeth Snipes-Rochester, granddaughter. Visitation will follow at the cryptside.
