Gladys Gowan

It is with great sadness that the family of Gladys Louise Gowan announces her passing away on Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at the age of 93. Gladys was born November 5, 1922, in Spartanburg County, SC, to Velma E. Poteat and G. Dewey Owenby. She shared 69 loving years of marriage with her husband, O. Freeman Gowan. Mrs. Gowen retired from Spartan Mill with 40 years of service and attended Cleveland Park Bible Church. Gladys is survived by her three children, Joanne Llanes (Roy) of College Station, TX, Karen Nicholls (Bob) of Spartanburg, SC, and Wayne Gowan of Spartanburg, SC; five grandchildren, Ruth Galindo of Bryan, TX, Chris Smith (Laurie) of The Woodlands, TX, Caroline Anderson (Craig) of College Station, TX, Todd Staats (Tammy) of Granville, OH, and James Nittel (Jessica) of Spartanburg, SC; 10 great-grandchildren, Jason and Paige Galindo, Christopher Smith, Brady and Ross Anderson, Gabe, Amelia, and Isabel Staats, Madison and Emily Nittel. She was predeceased by a brother, H. Raymond Owenby; and a sister, Marilyn O. Malone. Visitation will be 2:00-2:45 PM Sunday, August 28, 2016, at Cleveland Park Bible Church. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM, at the church, with the Rev. Dr. Ken Casillas officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cleveland Park Bible Church, 711 Asheville Hwy, Spartanburg, SC 29303. The family is at her home. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
