Gladys L. Wood Allen, 96, of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born May 24, 1920, in Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late Aldon John and Julia Clubb Wood, and widow of Jasper Allen, Jr. A member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, Mrs. Allen was retired from Arkwright Mills after 40 years of service. Survivors include her son, Stanley Allen (Susan) of Spartanburg, SC; daughter, Brenda Alverson (Paul Jr.) of Surfside Beach, SC; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 12:30-1:45 PM Saturday, March 4, 2017, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307, with services following in the Chapel at 2:00 PM, conducted by the Rev. Heidi Campbell-Robinson. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Complex, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Memorials may be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church, 105 McKay Avenue, Spartanburg, SC 29302. Special thanks to the entire staff at Mountainview Nursing Home for their years of love and caring of "Mama Allen". The family is at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Susan Allen.
