Gertrude Lueck

Gertrude Hunt Lueck, 93, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, July 14, 2014, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born June 5, 1921, in Spartanburg County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Eugene Fay and Cora Helderman Hunt and the wife of the late Melvin Julius Lueck. A 1938 graduate of Spartanburg High School, she was retired from the Spartanburg City Police Department as a school crossing guard with 20 years of service. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church, a former Den Mother for Cub Scout Troop #28, and received the Palmetto Council Area Award for Outstanding Service to Boyhood. Survivors include a son, Leslie Lueck (Susan) of Spartanburg; a daughter, Shirley Stallcup (Larry) of Greenville; five grandsons, Mitch Fain (Rhonda) of Landrum, Brian Fain (Elaine) of Taylors, Leonard "Len" Lueck, Jr. of Spartanburg, Travis Stallcup (Melissa) of Simpsonville, and Jeremy Stallcup (Stephanie) of Greenville; two granddaughters, Jennifer Anderson (Brian), and Lindsey Outz (Beau), all of Moore; great-grandsons, Josh Fain (Anna), Tanner and Mason Fain, Elias and Alex Fain, and Luke and Colton Anderson and Bryson and Owen Stallcup; great-granddaughters, Nicole Drozd, Jenna and Hailey Stallcup, Lily Kate Adams, Layla Mae Outz and Bridgett Jeffcoat; and great-great-granddaughters, Courtney and Caitlin Drozd. She was predeceased by a son, Leonard Lueck; a sister, Alva Hunt; and three brothers, Eugene "Gene" Hunt, Jr., Wallace Hunt and Robert E. Hunt. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. A special thanks to Bill, Cathy, and Grant Mitchell for being such special friends and neighbors. Also, we would like to thank the Hospice Staff for their excellent care and compassion. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Schuyler Peterson. Private burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Following the services, the family will be at the home of Leslie and Susan Lueck, 1290 Deerfield Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
