Gerry Deal

Gerry Lee Deal, husband of Betty Hendrix Deal, of Spartanburg, SC died May 29, 2010 of leiomyosarcoma cancer. Gerry was born on November 27, 1941, the son of the late Grayson L. Deal and Bernice S. Deal of Spartanburg. Mr. Deal was the grandson of the late Clarence and Mary Deal and Elijah and Nora Sanderson, all of Spartanburg. Gerry was a graduate of Spartanburg High School in 1960, Spartanburg Methodist College in 1962, Spartanburg Technical College and attended Wofford College and Clemson University. He retired from Deal's Machine Shop in 1999. Gerry is survived by his wife, Betty H. Deal, two daughters, Laura E. Deal of Spartanburg; Holly Deal Crain and her husband, Dr. D. Andrew (Drew) Crain and their children, Jared, Ashlyn, and Laurel of Maryville, TN; a son, G. Scott Deal of Spartanburg and his children, Kelly N. Reeves (Robert Stiffel) and their twin sons, Bryson and Braydon Reeves-Stiffel, Kendall S. Deal of Greenville, Alexis K. Deal of Clinton and Tish Parrish Phillips-Deal (the mother of Scott's children). Gerry is also survived by sister, Sandra Deal McCall of Deerfield Beach, FL and her four children, Tammy, Kelly, Guy and Paige. He is also survived by an aunt, Louise Deal Davis, seven cousins, sister-in-law, Virginia (Ginny) Hendrix McEntyre of Anderson, SC, brothers-in-law, William L. (Bill) and Peggy J. Hendrix of Townville, SC and Robert K. and Joan O. Hendrix of Spartanburg. There are also several nieces and nephews. Gerry was a member of National Pro Bass Masters, S. C Pro Bass Masters, Po Boys Fishing Club of Roebuck, Sparkle City Bass Club, NRA, and an avid NASCAR fan. Gerry was a member of Second Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg for fifty four years. Gerry was a youth baseball coach for twelve years. Special thanks to Tamika Murphy for wonderful care and concern; Edi, Brooke, Paige, Teresa, Cathy, Clegg, Carol, and Amy of Spartanburg Regional Hospice. Also appreciation to the Rev. Steven H. Rhodes and our Christian family at Second Presbyterian Church during the fifteen months of Gerry's illness. Much support was provided by Will and Billie Shehan of Boiling Springs. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to any of the following: Second Presbyterian Church, Special Education Sunday School Class at Bethel United Methodist Church, Charles Lea Center for Laura Deal, Thornwell Presbyterian Home for Children, Spartanburg Regional Hospice, or cancer research. There will be a receiving of friends at Second Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 from 4:00-5:30 p.m. and a graveside service will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens at 6:30 p.m., conducted by the Rev.
