Geraldine Patton Ivey

Geraldine Patton Ivey, age 90, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Thursday, June 22, 2023.  She was the faithful, loving wife of the late, Euial Jack Ivey to whom she was married to for 59 years before his death.

As the manager of the cafeteria at Hendrix Elementary School, she fed many students, teachers, and other guests during her time there.  She loved and enjoyed working with the ladies in the kitchen and gave much joy to all she fed every day before she retired from the Spartanburg School District 2.

Mrs. Ivey was born in Spartanburg and a life-long resident.  She was a member of Beaumont Baptist Church for 40 years, and she held the positions of treasurer and secretary of the Women’s Bible Class for many years.  She enjoyed sending cards of life’s celebrations to all the ladies in the Bible Class. 

“Mema”, as she was lovingly called by many, loved to volunteer, and served in many different ministries at her church.  She enjoyed helping and organizing the food meals, socializing with the people of church and she had a heart for missions, especially Lottie Moon.  She read her bible faithfully and led and amazing Christ centered life.  She will be missed by all who knew her.

The family she leaves behind to grieve her loss include her children, Sonja E. Melton (Jerry) and Mike Ivey (Robin); four grandchildren, Jerome Williams (Tonya), Eric Gowan (predeceased by fiancé Melonie), Amanda Ivey Duncan (Jeff) and Shanna Wall (Jeremy); 15 great-grandchildren and eight great great-grandchildren.  She is predeceased by her sister, Lavinia Williams whom she loved so well along with her nieces and nephews.   

The family will receive friends at 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 27^th, at Beaumont Baptist Church, 945 Beaumont Ave, Spartanburg, SC 29303, and her funeral service will begin at 11:00 am in the church sanctuary.  Interment will immediately follow the service in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.  Rev. John Lee, Rev. Danny Meetze, and John Cox will officiate.
