Gerald Parris

Gerald Carlisle Parris, 78, of Clinton, SC, died Monday, October 21, 2013, at Hospice of Laurens County. Born May 27, 1935, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late LeRoy and Gladys Layton Parris. A U. S. Navy veteran and graduate of Spartanburg High School, Mr. Parris was an active member of Second Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg, where he was also a deacon and usher. Survivors include his beloved wife, Jackie Mullins Parris; daughter, The Rev. Dr. Jeri Parris Perkins (Phil) of Clinton, SC; granddaughters, Kelley Perkins Brown (Trey), Catherine Carlisle Perkins, and Jennifer "Jenn" Paden; great-granddaughters, Jeri Katherine "Katie" Brown and Carly Elizabeth Brown; sisters, Barbara Darwin and Jimmie Hill (Willie), all of Spartanburg, SC; brother, Roy Parris Jr. of Columbia, SC; nephews, William "Kip" Darwin Jr. (Lauri), Andrew Todd Darwin (Lesli), and James Layton Parris (Amiee); and nieces, Joanna Clancy (James) and Deana West (Bill). A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday, October 24, 2013, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by The Rev. Steven Rhodes and The Rev. Sam Pope. Visitation will follow at the graveside. Memorials may be made to Second Presbyterian Church, 438 N. Church St., Spartanburg, SC 29303; or First Presbyterian Church, 410 E.
