On July 12, 2021, Georgia Kalangis Allen passed away peacefully following a short battle with leukemia. At 83 years young, she was well-loved by many. A Spartanburg native, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Polly Kalangis.
With many achievements in the arts field, she aided in the establishment of the Spartanburg Art Center and served as E.D. of the Spartanburg Arts Council. Later in life, she found herself in New York City working in public relations surrounded by many friends and loved ones. The most memorable quality Georgia possessed was her love for life. Her very joyful spirit became infectious to all those whom she met. With an appreciation for her Greek heritage, she was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.
Georgia's greatest and most prideful achievement was her family. She leaves behind sons, Eddie Allen and Michael Allen; granddaughters, Brittney Taylor and Chelsey Norris; and great-grandchildren, Kaylee Frazer, Colton Pitts, Liam Norris, Luca Norris, and Olivia Norris. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Tony Kalangis.
Visitation will be held 10:00-10:45 AM Thursday, July 15, 2021, at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 697 Asheville Hwy, Spartanburg, SC 29303, with funeral services following at 11:00 AM at the church, conducted by The Rev. George F. Nayfa. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
