George Smith

George O'Brien Smith, 83, of Spartanburg, SC, died Thursday, May 25, 2017 at his home. Born December 19, 1933 in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Marvin and Idaha Lee Smith. A U. S. Army veteran, Mr. Smith received a Bronze star and numerous other medals during two tours in Vietnam. He retired as an E-7 Master Medic after 21 years of service. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and attended Anderson Mill Baptist Church. Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Vera Bryant Smith; sons, Robin O'Brien Smith (Barbara) of Moore, Kenneth Smith of Roebuck; daughters, Dorinda Simmons of Pauline, Cindy J. Morris of Roebuck; grandchildren, Josh Smith, Ginger Morris, Keith Morris; great grandchildren, Jalia Miller Paisley Smith, Jayda Miller, Kealani Robinson; sisters, Barnette Gibson, Juanita Barr and Deborah Isman. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by siblings, Roger Dale Smith, Margaret Mathis, and Millie Day. Visitation will be 1:00 - 1:45 PM Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel, 235 North Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM at the chapel, conducted by the Rev. Rex Keaton. Burial with full military rites will follow in Heritage Memorial Gardens, 3901 South Church Street, Roebuck, SC 29376.
