George Pitts

George Wesley Pitts, 93, of Spartanburg, died Thursday, February 9, 2012, at his home. Born July 6, 1918, in Batesville, SC, he was the son of the late James Madison and Mary Chapman Pitts. He was employed with Arkwright Mill, as well as several other textile mills, and retired as a mechanic from Ideal Fuel. Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Eloise Revis Pitts; sons, Melvin (Judy) Revis of Boiling Springs, SC, Bill (Carol) Pitts of Olympia, WA, and Ray (Debbie) Pitts of Spartanburg; daughter, Renee (Metz) Phillips of Gaffney, SC; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by sisters, Evelyn Swaney and Maude Peace; and a brother, Manley Pitts. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Visitation will be 1:30-2:45 PM Sunday, February 12, 2012, at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM at the chapel, conducted by the Rev. Tim Hackett. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Agape Hospice of Spartanburg, 1060 Boiling Springs Road, Suite 1, Spartanburg, SC 29303. The family is at their respective homes.
