George Mccarter

George Ray “Mac” McCarter, 94, of Murrells Inlet, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 19, 2023.

Mr. McCarter was born in Robinson, Illinois, to the late Roy Everett McCarter and Ruth Marie Purcell McCarter. He met, married, and spent 50 years with the love of his life, Hazel McBee McCarter, in Spartanburg, SC, before moving to the SC coast. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed traveling and playing with his grandchildren. George served as President of Spartanburg Shrine Club in 1978 and was a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and American Legion Post 28 Spartanburg. Mr. McCarter proudly served our country in the United States Army from 1951-1953.

In addition to his parents Mr. McCarter is preceded in death by his beloved son, George Ray McCarter, Jr., and his brothers, John, Kenneth, and Bob McCarter.

Survivors include his loving wife, Hazel McBee McCarter of Murrells Inlet; his daughter, Wanda McCarter Edge and her husband, Perry Thomas Edge of Pawleys Island, SC; grandson, Cameron Thomas McCarter Edge (Katherine Bryant), of Myrtle Beach, SC; granddaughters, Katherine Edge Tribble (Reid Warren) of Columbia, SC and Callie McCarter Lowery (Josh Hayden) of Pauline, SC; 5 beautiful great grandchildren; lovely sister, Neoma McCarter Bailey of Benton Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.

Visitation will be 3:00 – 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A graveside service will follow at 4:00 PM in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.

The family requests that donations be made in George’s name to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Send Love to the Rescue, Attn: Shriners Hospitals for Children, PO Box 947765, Atlanta, GA 30394 or online at www.Lovetotherescue.org

The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital ER and ICU staff. Also, to Becky Ulster, his Amedysis wound care nurse, and the staff of St. Gabriel Assisted Living.
