George Lewis, 83, of Spartanburg, died Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care. Born February 5, 1926, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Thomas and Allie Conner Lewis. He was a retired carman with Norfolk Southern Railway and a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. Survivors include two daughters, Julia Georgette Abbott of Roebuck, and Clarice "Recie" Hickman of Inman; a son, John Thomas Lewis of Boiling Springs; two granddaughters, Cindy Lawson of Roebuck, and Bridget Johnson of Inman; two grandsons, Eddie Abbott of Pacolet, and Travis Lewis of Boiling Springs; a brother, Nick Lewis of Spartanburg; two sisters, Margie Allison of Spartanburg, and Artie Quinn of Palatka, FL; and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a grandson, Johnny Abbott; and a brother, Dewey Lewis. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2009, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Cryptside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2009, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Complex conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Cash.
