George Smith

George Edward "Eddie" Smith, 67, of Boiling Springs, SC, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, August 17, 2015 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born July 20, 1948, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Hulon Jack Smith and Anna Ruth George Smith. Eddie was an exceptional family man living the example of a faithful, committed friend and Christian to all who knew him. He will be sorely missed by all. A graduate of Spartanburg High School, Eddie also attended USC Upstate. He was a master plumber and owner/operator of Eddie Smith Plumbing Company since May 1990. He was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church in Cowpens for 52 years, since June 1963. He served faithfully as a Deacon at MVBC since 1973 and taught the Young Men's Sunday School Class for 30 years. He was also an original member of the Gospel Four Quartet and the Eddie Smith Trio. Survivors include his beloved wife of 47 years, Cathy Spencer Smith; children, Stacy Wells and her husband Robbie of Cowpens, SC and Cam Smith and his wife Lisa of Boiling Springs, SC; grandchildren, Karsen McMakin, US Army, Baumholder, Germany, Kendal McMakin of Boiling Springs, SC, Emily and Skyler Smith of Boiling Springs, SC; sisters, Martha Kean and her husband Allan of Houston, TX and Gloria Jean Creech and her husband Larry of Fuquay-Varina, NC; brother, Mike Smith of Spartanburg, SC; and son-in-law, Philip McMakin of Aiken, SC. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to our family, church family, and friends for every expression of their love and support during this time. Visitation will be 12:30-2:00 PM Wednesday, August 19, 2015, at Mountain View Baptist Church, 650 Battleground Rd., Cowpens, SC 29330 with funeral services following at 2:30 PM, conducted by the Rev. Steven Griffith. Burial will be in Good Shepherd Memorial Park, 4164 Boiling Springs Rd., Boiling Springs, SC 29316.
