George Shackleford Begg II, 77, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, February 12, 2018, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born September 14, 1940, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late George William Begg and Belle "Jill" Brown Begg. A U. S. Army veteran and 1963 graduate of Clemson University, Mr. Begg was one of seven founding members of Sigma Alpha Zeta Fraternity and served on the senior staff for TAPS at Clemson. He was a former banker, commercial property manager, and of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his children, George S. Begg (Monica) of Taylors, SC, William R. Begg of Livingston, MT, and Elizabeth Begg Acker (Doug) of Simpsonville, SC; granddaughters, Lydia Acker and Logan Acker; great-grandson, Remington Lusk; brother, William B. Begg (Billie) of Brevard, NC; sister, Jill B. Sellenriek of Fulton, MO; the mother of his children, Jeane Moore Begg of Taylors, SC; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Begg Bloch; and devoted aunt, Helen E. Begg. A service honoring his memory will be conducted at 3:00 PM Saturday, February 17, 2018, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Visitation will follow the service.
