George Keith Auton, 72, of Spartanburg, SC, started his new life on Friday, March 18, 2016, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born September 18, 1943, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of Willie Mae Medlock Auton Petty and the late Raymond George "RG" Auton. A Vietnam Army Veteran, 1st Calvary Division, receiving the Army Commendation Medal and a Purple Heart, "Papa Keith", was an active member of the VFW and the Elks Lodge. He was a purchasing agent with Woonsocket Spinning Factory for many years and retired after working with his son, Scott Auton with his painting business. "Papa Keith" loved his mama, children, women, dogs, and cold beer, in that order. Everywhere "Papa Keith" went there was sure to be fun. Survivors include his children, Scott Tillman Auton (Lindley) of Gaffney, SC; Criss Ann Auton Soard (David) of Walterboro, SC; grandchildren, Morgan Wynn Auton, Scottie Kay Auton, Darby Lindley Auton, and Nolan Tillman Auton all of Spartanburg, Logan Scott Auton of Greenville, SC and Krystopher Anthony "Chaz" Soard, of Walterboro, SC; sister, Diane Auton Smith of Spartanburg, SC and brothers, John "Johnny" Auton (Shelly) of Charlotte, NC and William "Bill" Auton of Gaffney, SC; many very special nieces and nephews and some of his lifelong friends, Jimmy Marsh, Larry Gilliland, Buddy Abbott and Jimmy Waldrop all of Spartanburg, SC. "Papa Keith" did not want a funeral service, instead he wanted a party to celebrate his life. The celebration will be held at a later date.
