Gene Russell Pridgen, 74, of Spartanburg, SC, died Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born October 28, 1938 in Rocky Mount, NC, he was the son of the late Russell and Mary Rachel Parker Pridgen. Mr. Pridgen was a retired Corporate Risk Manager from Spartan Foods and was currently employed with Car Quest Auto Parts. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, an avid golfer having been a member of Lan-Yair Country Club, Carolina Country Club, and Woodfin Ridge Country Club. He had a deep and abiding love of air planes and continued to fly after his service to his country. He was a pilot in the U.S. Air Force serving in the Vietnam War. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Lindsey Pridgen; daughters, M. Suzanne Tyson of Greenville, SC and Leanne Tyson Cox of Spartanburg, SC; sons, Russell Chadwick Pridgen and Jim Pridgen both of Frankfort, KY; four granddaughters, Rachel Elizabeth Cox, Frances "Franny" Katherine Cox, and Sydney Paige Cox, and Roxy Pridgen; and brother, Donald Pridgen of Rocky Mount, NC. Memorial Services will be at 3:00 PM Tuesday. August 13, 2013 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by the Rev. Frank E. Lybrand.
