Gene Mcbee

Gene McBee, 74, of Union, died Monday, March 7, 2011, at J. F. Hawkins Healthcare. Born December 28, 1936 in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late John Earl "Squirrel" and Reatha Josephine Henderson McBee. A 1955 graduate of Spartanburg High School, he retired as a mechanic from Big-O-Dodge, and was a Stock Car driver from 1954 to 1972. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Union and a Mason with Arcadia Masonic Lodge # 285. Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Ponder and husband Jay of Campobello and Cheryl Shetley and husband Neil of Union; two sons, Leonard McBee of Columbia and Todd McBee of Florida; four granddaughters; three great-granddaughters; and a sister, Delores Blackwell of Spartanburg. He was predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Madden Campbell Letson; two brothers, Claude and Carl McBee. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Floyd's North Church Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel, conducted by the Rev. Andy Case. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
