Gaynell Cody Donald, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, she was 89. Born on March 15, 1935, in Gaffney, South Carolina, Gaynell was the daughter of the late Robert Lloyd Cody and Nellie Moss Cody.

A devoted member of Thompson Chapel Baptist Church, Gaynell was quite active in various children’s ministries throughout her life. Her passion for helping others was evident in her many roles within her church, where she taught Sunday School, participated in Vacation Bible School and sang in the choir. Gaynell and her husband were lovingly devoted to the youth in the church. She was active in the WMU and always known for her warm spirit and her unwavering commitment to meet the needs of those around her.

She lived a life dedicated to service and community, retiring at the age of 79 from a dedicated career in School District 3, where she contributed over 35 years of her life to her community. 

Gaynell's love for nature was evident through her proudest accomplishments as a "Master Gardener." Her garden was a testament to her love of flowers, she found joy and peace in spending her time outdoors.

She is survived by her loving family, including her daughters, Susan Donald Lollis (Jim) of Simpsonville, SC, and Rachel Donald Erwin (Sonny) of Lugoff, SC; her son, Michael Scott Donald (Libby) of Cowpens, SC; as well as her cherished grandchildren, Kaytie Donald Finley (Sparkey), Kelsey Donald Howell (Jonathan), Amelia Erwin, and Heath Erwin. Her precious great-grandchildren, Braxton Howell and Eliza Finley.

Gaynell was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Scott Donald, her parents, and her siblings: Robert, Charles, Odell, Leonard, and Ted Cody.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 17, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM at Thompson Chapel Baptist Church, 896 Thompson Chapel Rd, Spartanburg, SC 29307, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM in the chapel.

Burial will be held in White Plains Baptist Church, 206 Soap Stone Rd, Gaffney, SC 29340. Services will be conducted by the Rev. David Frost.

Gaynell Cody Donald will be remembered for her kindness, her spirit of service, and her dedication to her family and community.
