Gay Satterfield

Gay Alexander Satterfield of Spartanburg, SC died Monday, January 18, 2021 in her home at age 73. Born December 20, 1947, she was the daughter of the late William Ralph and Beth Sanders Alexander. Mrs. Satterfield graduated from Lander College, Greenwood, SC with a BS in Elementary Education and did post graduate work at The Citadel, Charleston, SC in Psychology. Activities: 1971-1974: Trident Academy: Supervisor over Elementary teachers and Summer Programs, Supervisor and Coordinator of Psychological Testing for the Reading Research Foundation. 1981-1983: Spartanburg Council President (35 clubs) 1980-1981: Lady Slipper President - member 12 years, secretary, vice president, awards, flowers show chairperson. 1983-1985: Council Historian, published Fifty Year History, local Judges Club, two term officer, State Judges Club, yearbook publisher State Federation: 1983-1985 Publicity Chairman, 1985-1987 Program Chairman, 1987-1989 Editor of SC Gardener magazine, 1983-1985 Radio and Television Chairman. 1985-1987: Energy and Waste Awareness Chairmen, 1987-1989 Publications Chairman, 1985 National Council alternate delegate National Convention, 1985 Waste Awareness Conference, 1986-1987 Committee National Programs, 1987 Shell Award for Best Regional Conference and Best State Follow Up for research on Hazardous Waste for South Atlantic Region and South Carolina. 1981-1985: Spartanburg City and County Beautification Committees, City Arbor Day Chairman for Tree City requirements. 1982: charter member and flower show schedules chairman of Piedmont Carolina Iris Society. 1981-1983: President Spartanburg County Dental Auxiliary Spartanburg Newcomers board member, Chairperson of Spartanburg Day School Book Fair, Junior Woman's Club, Youth Theater Guild, Alcoholic Men board member. Elementary teacher for seven years. Office Manager for her husband's dental practice. Survivors: husband, Doctor B. Holland Satterfield Jr; son, Doctor Bryan H. Satterfield and his wife, Doctor Susan Curran Satterfield; granddaughters, Sylvie and Maeve Satterfield all of Greenville, SC; sister, Judy Alexander Ramsey of Lawrenceville, GA.
