Garey Arthur Poteat, 70, of Landrum, SC, died Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at his home. Born November 19, 1944, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Arthur Irvin and Jessie Mae Staggs Poteat. A U. S. Army veteran, Mr. Poteat served two tours of duty in Vietnam and was awarded honors including the Purple Heart. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and was employed with Mohawk Industries, Inc.-Landrum Mill. Surviving is his loving wife of 24 years, Betty Jo Pruitt Poteat of the home; four children, Darrin Wayne Poteat of Woodruff, Rhonda Windhaus of Gray Court, Tracey Conklin of New York, and Kimberley Poteat-Dutton (Dewayne) of Clinton; 17 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 stepchildren, Debra Chapman (Arthur) and Phyllis Parker (Lane), all of Landrum; brothers and sisters, Debra Shealy of Inman, Janice Otoski and Ronald Poteat, both of Piedmont, and Terry Poteat of Twin City, GA. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Edward Poteat. Visitation will be 10:00-10:45 AM Saturday, January 3, 2015, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services with military rites will follow at 11:00 AM, at the Chapel, conducted by Captain Kenneth Cash.
