Gail Patterson

Gail Patterson, 86, of Boiling Springs, SC, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born September 21, 1936, in the Cannons Campground community of Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late Charles Elmore and Addie Mae Wright Collins, and the wife of the late Robert Patterson.

Gail studied piano and organ for nine years at Converse College, was a graduate of Cecil’s Business College, and later attended Limestone College. During a time when most women didn’t work outside the home, she started out working as an executive secretary in banking and worked her way up to eventually becoming an HR Manager. She was a member of Cannons Campground United Methodist Church.

She loved fishing and spent many happy days on the water with her husband. They also enjoyed hunting, dancing, music, and were dedicated to their dogs. In her later life she loved reading and playing cards with her friends at Terraces at Lakewood Independent Living. She was a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Gail is survived by her family, who will miss her deeply: Ann Hunter (Martin); grandchildren, Hillary Turner Charles (Ron), Brad Turner (Charlie), Madeline Hunter Holland (Matthew), Rachel Hunter, and Samuel Hunter; great grandchildren, Megan Charles Dempsey (Robert), Ethan Charles, Caroline Charles, Payton Turner, Wyatt Hamby (Turner), Jaxon Turner, Bradleigh Gardner (Hunter), and Rowan Holland. She was predeceased by a daughter, Amy Elizabeth Waddle.

The funeral service will be held graveside at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by The Rev. Thomas Sparks. Visitation will be held graveside immediately following the service.

Gail was an avid animal lover, and her wishes were that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303, online at www.spartanburghumane.org
