Gail Hodge Balentine, 80, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, June 20, 2016, at White Oak Manor-Spartanburg. Born April 27, 1936, in Spartanburg at Camp Wadsworth, she was the daughter of the late Walter Herbert and Annie Beatrice Sims Hodge and widow of Franklin Roosevelt Balentine. Mrs. Balentine was an avid gardener and reader. She loved playing piano and also loved her four cats. A member of Westgate Baptist Church, she was a retired registered nurse formerly employed with Spartanburg Medical Center and Columbia Hospital of Richland County. Surviving are her children, Lynn Yarbrough (Greg) of Elberton, GA and Susan B. Smith (Barry) of Moore, SC; daughter-in-law, Wendy Balentine of Moore, SC; grandchildren, Amanda Capps, Ben Yarbrough, and Jessica Balentine; brothers and sister, Walter Kevin Hodge of Inman, SC, Sara Annette Hodge Kesler of Anderson, SC, and James Elbert Hodge of Moore, SC; and former daughter-in-law, Tina Balentine of Spartanburg, SC. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Joey Balentine. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel, 235 N. Church St., Spartanburg, SC 29306. A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 PM Thursday, June 23, 2016, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by the Rev. Stephen Johnson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
