Gail Allen

Jacqueline "Gail" Shepherd Allen, 80, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at her home in Spartanburg, SC surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 10, 1936 in Spartanburg, SC. Mrs. Allen graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1955 and went on to become a Registered Nurse after graduating in 1958 from Spartanburg General Hospital's nursing program. She cared for OB/GYN patients at Spartanburg General Hospital for 25 years before taking a Head Nurse position at the newly opened Labor and Delivery unit at Mary Black Hospital, from which she retired in 1989. She also briefly served as a Nursing Instructor at Swofford Vocational School. Mrs. Allen, along with her husband, Charles Allen, Jr. were faithful members of Bethel United Methodist Church where she served on multiple committees. However, her lifelong focus which brought her the greatest joy was that of being a devoted and selfless mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In addition to her husband of 57 years, Charles C. Allen, Jr., she is survived by and was "Momma" to 5 eternally blessed children. She was "Grandma" to 7 adoring grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. They are children, Tara A. Roberts of Spartanburg, SC, Pamela A. King (Mike) of Columbia, SC, Leslie A. Webber (Todd) of Moore, SC, and a set of twins, Amanda A. Faile (Kevin) of Boiling Springs, SC and Charles "Chip" Coggins Allen III (Jenifer) of Pauline, SC; grandchildren, Matthew Allen Everett (Conner) of Spartanburg, SC, Melissa G. Everett of Spartanburg, SC, Davis Allen King of Columbia, SC, Charles Coleman Morris (Madison) of Greer, SC, Morgan Elizabeth Webber of Charleston, SC, Taylor Jordan Fortner, Morgan Lee Faile and Sarah "Elleson" Allen, all of Spartanburg, SC; two great-grandchildren, Harper Lynette Everett and Aiden Grant Faile, both of Spartanburg, SC. She is also survived by one loving and devoted sister, Nancy S. Lee (Wendell); and nieces, Andrea Cavendish (Mark) of Spartanburg, SC and Jill Wilson (Jeff) of Cary, NC; and nephew, Rick Lee (Nicki) of Spartanburg, SC. She was predeceased by her mother, Ruth Shepherd. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, May 15, 2017, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307, by the Rev. David E. Nichols. Visitation will be at the graveside.
