G. Hutchins, Jr.

G. J. "Jeff" Hutchins, Jr., 77, of Columbia, SC, died Thursday, February 1, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family. Born March 13, 1940, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late G. J. "Jack" Hutchins, Sr. and Eliza Wall Hutchins. Jeff was a member of Union United Methodist Church in Irmo and participated in Focused Living Bible Study in Irmo. He grew up attending Fairview Baptist Church in Spartanburg. A proud supporter of Clemson football and baseball, he also loved to work in his yard and garden. He was a graduate of Wofford College and retired from BB&T Dealer Services Sales and Finance after many years of service. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Ann Barden Hutchins; children, Heidi H. Gregory (Todd) of Greenville, SC and Rhett J. Hutchins of Fayetteville, AR; brother, Ray Hutchins (Sue) of Spartanburg, SC; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Bill, Irwin, and Lee Hutchins; and two sisters, Stella Spencer and Naomi Eubanks. The family would like to especially thank Brenda, Nikki, Jessica, Jacque, and Carol of Compassionate Care Hospice and Engine 171, B Shift of the Irmo Fire Department. Visitation will be 12:30-1:15 PM, Monday, February 5, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307 with funeral services following at 1:30 PM, conducted by The Rev. Stephen Taylor. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
