G. Damon Clary, 88, of Cowpens, died Friday, July 23, 2010 at his home. Born March 21, 1922 in Cherokee County, he was the son of the late James Thomas Clary and Julia Richards Clary. He was retired from Timken Bearing in Gaffney, a member of First Baptist Church of Cowpens, a volunteer for Mobile Meals, former member of the See Saw Squares, Cowpens Masonic Lodge #210, and a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII and was a Purple Heart recipient in Germany. Survivors include his wife of thirty seven years, Margie M. Clary, a daughter, Debbie Riley and husband Jimmy of Inman; a step-daughter, Kathy Ridings of Spartanburg; a step-son, Homer E. McAbee, Jr and wife Mary of Spartanburg; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; five step-great grandchildren; a sister, Ouida Osborne of Sanduski, OH and his special dog, Heidi. He was predeceased by five brothers and six sisters. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 P.M. Saturday, July 24, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Cowpens. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, July 25, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Cowpens, conducted by the Rev. Dr. William Westafer, and the Rev. Dr. Charles Dorman. Burial will be in Daniel Morgan Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to Mobile Meals Services, P.O. Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304 or to the First Baptist Church of Cowpens, 108 West Church Street, Cowpens, SC 29330 or to Interim Hospice, 775 Spartan Boulevard, Suite 101, Spartanburg, SC 29301.
