Frederick Phillips

Frederick "Mike" Phillips, 76, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at 12:44 PM at White Oak Manor-Spartanburg. Born April 19, 1942, in Los Angeles, CA, he was the son of the late Francis Martin Johnson and Susie McDunnah Johnson. A U. S. Army veteran, Mr. Phillips was a Shriner and member of the Masonic Lodge in Spartanburg, SC and Texarkana, TX, as well as AM-Vets in Circleville, OH. He was also a member of Anderson Mill Road Baptist Church for 23 years where he was a choir member and Upward basketball coach. He retired from Phillips Delivery Service. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Maudie Sproles Phillips; sons, Michael Phillips Jr. (Melessa) and Danny Phillips (Cheryl), all of Charlottesville, VA; step-daughter, Cathy S. Smith of Boiling Springs, SC; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Francine Baker (Rev. Boyd Baker) of Scottsdale, AZ; and brother, Robert Johnson of California. Visitation will be 11:00-11:45 AM Friday, December 7, 2018, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307 with funeral services following at 12:00 noon, conducted by The Rev. Dr. D. J. Horton, The Rev. Asheton Amerson, and Mr. Claude Schmid. Burial, with military rites, will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
