Fred Bernard Beck, 82, of Spartanburg, SC died Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born July 11, 1939 in Glassy Mountain community of Greenville, SC. Fred was a longtime resident of Hampton, VA, where he spent his career as an electrical engineer with NASA Langley AFB and was an internationally renowned recognized electromagnetics expert. Fred loved his time spent at NASA but he loved his family even more, leading to his passion for genealogy research post retirement. He attended River Hills Baptist Church in Moore, SC, and was the son of the late William T. and Ida Belle Lockhart Beck.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Beck, daughter, Cameron Beck Ruddy (Jeff) of Glen-Allen, VA; three grandchildren, Patrick Ruddy (Lexie) of Moore, SC, Brianna Thompson (Kolbye) and Bryson Ruddy of Glen-Allen, VA; a sister, Nancy Beck Brooks of Columbia, SC, a brother, W. T. Beck, of Boiling Springs, SC. Fred was preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene Cameron Beck, Cornelius “Lin” Beck and Donald Beck and by two sisters, Delores Beck and Geraldine “Pet” Wright.
Visitation will be Friday, September 3, 2021 at 3:00 - 3:45 PM at Floyd's Greenalwn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC, 29307. A funeral service will be held Friday, September 3, 2021, at 4:00 PM at the chapel, conducted by Rev. Kent Smith. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to River Hills Baptist Church, 5162 Reidville Road, Moore, SC, 29369.
