Franklin R. Balentine, 75, of Moore, died Friday, March 5, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital, Columbus, NC. Born June 21, 1934, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Joseph B. and Clara Crocker Balentine. He attended Spartanburg High School and graduated from Columbia Business College. He was retired from the newspaper publishing business, having worked for the Spartanburg Herald Journal, the State Record in Columbia, SC, the Atlanta Journal & Constitution, and was a member of The Newspaper Association of America. He was a U.S. Veteran of the Korean War, a Mason, and of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his wife, Gail Hodge Balentine of Moore; a daughter, Lynn Yarbrough and her husband Greg of Elberton, GA; a son, Joey Balentine and his wife Wendy of Moore; a daughter, Susan B. Smith and her husband Barry of Moore; three grandchildren, Amanda Capps, Ben Yarbrough, and Jessica Balentine; and one sister, Emily Gregory of Moore. A private graveside service will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Stephen Johnson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303. The family is at the home of his daughter, Susan B.
