Frank Leonard Lancaster, 91, of the Cannon's Campground Community, died Monday, September 3, 2012, at Emeritus at Skylyn Place after an extended illness. Born December 14, 1920, in Arrowood Community, he was the husband of the late Edna Arthur Lancaster and the son of the late Burch and Elma Burnett Lancaster. Mr. Lancaster was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II having served in Panama the length of the war. He participated in an Upstate Honor Flight with other World War II veterans to the World War II Memorial in Washington DC on September 20, 2011. He was retired from Community Cash stores after 48 years of service. Mr. Lancaster was a member of Cannon's Camp Ground United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities including Sunday School teacher. He was the last surviving charter member of the Cannon's Ruritan Club. Mr. Lancaster served on the District Three School Board for a number of years and he was a Mason. Mr. Lancaster was an avid gardener growing vegetables to give to family and friends. He grew beautiful camellias and iris. He also enjoyed hunting, raising beagles, fishing, and helping others. Surviving are daughters, Nancy Hewitt of Hubert, NC, Jean (Chris) Vassey of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Todd Hewitt (Jennifer) of San Angelo, TX, Sammy Ray Hewitt, Carrie (Sammy) Meadows, Brittney (Anthony) Hernandez, all of Hubert, NC, Megan Vassey (Tommy Tomes) and Sawyer Vassey of Spartanburg, SC; step-granddaughters, Kim Simpson and Annettia Hewitt; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Koty, Travis, and Austin Hewitt, Quint and Emma Meadows, Nolan Hernandez, Cayden Brown, and Ayla Tomes; one great-great-grandchild, Sophia Trujillo; a sister, Ann (Hugh) Simmons of Spartanburg, SC; brothers, Hugh (Rita) Lancaster of Greer, SC, and Curtis (Hannah) of Chesnee, SC. He was preceded in death by sisters, Juanita Lancaster, Muriel Ledford, Eloise Hawkins, and Ruth Lee; and brothers, Carl Lancaster, Ray Lancaster, and J. E. Lancaster. Visitation will be 7:00-9:00 PM Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, September 6, 2012, at Cannon's Camp Ground United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Mac Kinnett, the Rev. David Ervin, and the Rev. Ken Bobo. Burial will be in Cannon's Camp Ground United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers are Todd Hewitt, Sammy Ray Hewitt, Sawyer Vassey, Anthony Hernandez, Tommy Tomes, and Sammy Meadows.
