Frank Dillard

Frank Edwin Dillard, 80, of Twin Lakes, died Sunday, July 4, 2010 at his home. Born April 24, 1930 in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Clarence Edwin and Sue Cobb Dillard. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Patricia Slemons Dillard; a son, the Rev. Britt Dillard and wife Canella of Spartanburg; a daughter, Terri Gowdy and husband Trey of Spartanburg; and four grandchildren, Aubrey Lynne Dillard, Logan Frank Dillard, Harold Watson Gowdy IV, and Abigail Anderson Gowdy. He was predeceased by a brother, Gene Dillard. Frank was a 1947 graduate of Spartanburg High School and a 1953 graduate of Wofford College. He was employed with Draper and Rockwell International for over 30 years and was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Dillard was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg where he was a deacon for 41 years, a member of the Fellowship Class and a former sanctuary choir member. He worked with the Youth Choir, and toured with the "I Wonder" Choir Tour Prison Ministry for 21 years. He was active with the Spartanburg Little Theater since 1951 where he participated in many musicals and plays. Throughout the years, he performed with the Converse College Opera Workshop and sang in many operas with John McCrae and Henry Janiec. He was a former member of Spartanburg County Council and a past member of the Spartanburg Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees. Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Donald J. Wilton and the Rev. Dr. Alastair Walker. Entombment with military rites by the South Carolina State Guard Honors Team will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Dr. Hal Gowdy, Jr., Rev. Gregory "Caz" McCaslin, Ed Crook, David Dennis, Ray Childers, Al Clark, Jr., Lewis McCallister, Jr., and Dan Bennett.
