Frank Chininis

April 18, 1931 — January 27, 2015

Frank Gust Chininis, 83, of Moore, SC, fell asleep in the Lord peacefully on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 in his home. Born in South Milwaukee, WI, he was the son of the late Constantine and Despina Piakis Chininis. A U. S. Marine veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Chininis was retired from the Vending Division of Gladieux Food Services in Toledo, OH. Following retirement, he was a self-employed home remodeling contractor in Greensboro, NC. He was a faithful member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Spartanburg and served on the Parish Council as president and treasurer in the parishes he attended in Toledo, OH and Greensboro, NC. Active in the Order of AHEPA for many years, he served in many offices at the local level and as Governor of District Three. Married 58 years, Frank was the beloved husband of Toula Balabanis Chininis; devoted father of Rev. Fr. Thomas Chininis (Karen) of Amherst, NH, Stephen Chininis (Maria) of Norcross, GA, Constantine Chininis (Diane) of Noblesville, IN, and Kristina Berry (Todd) of Duncan, SC; grandchildren, Alexis, Nicole, Christopher, Elias, Amalea, Evan, Katherine, Constance and Gregory Chininis, and Elena Berry; brother-in-law of Achilles Balabanis (Charlyn) of Sun City, AZ and sister-in-law of Rebecca Balabanis of Forest Park, IL. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Chininis. He lived an extraordinary life as an Orthodox Christian and was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren. Left to cherish memories are many family members and friends. Visitation will be 6-8 pm on Friday, January 30, 2015, with the Trisagion Prayer Service beginning at 7:30, at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 697 Asheville Hwy, Spartanburg, SC 29303. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 30, 2015, at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will be in Nazareth Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 680 Nazareth Church Rd., Moore, SC 29369. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Memorial Fund, PO Box 1107 Spartanburg, SC 29304.
