Frances Sprinkle Thorne, 82, of 108 Suttles Drive, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, and is now blessed by rest. Born May 7, 1927, in Spartanburg County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Rev. William Jesse Sprinkle, Sr. and Trannie Williams Sprinkle of Cowpens and the wife of the late Rev. Charles Donald Thorne. She attended Limestone College and retired from the Charles Lea Center. She was a member of Fernwood Baptist Church and attended New Prospect Baptist Church where she was a member of the Joy Group. Survivors include a son, Dr. Charles Thorne and wife Beverly of Boiling Springs; a brother, Elliott Teal Sprinkle of Spartanburg; a sister, Alice Copeland and husband Eugene of Summerville; grandchildren, Brian Tate, Jeremy Thorne, Todd Thorne and wife Mitzi, and Amy Thorne Parkin and husband Scott; and great-grandchildren, Chase Thorne, Tanner Thorne, Maddox Parkin, and Britain Parkin. She was predeceased by a son, Michael Ross Thorne; a daughter, Marilyn Thorne Tate; and a brother, William Jesse Sprinkle, Jr. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 12, 2010, at Fernwood Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Kelly Belcher and Dr. Anita Davis. A private graveside service will be held in Frederick Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fernwood Baptist Church, The Q. Eric Bjork Mission Fund, 200 Fernwood Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307. The family is at the home of her son, Dr. Charles Thorne, 291 Riveroak Circle, Inman, SC 29349.
