Frances Charles

Frances Lavania Wimberly Bessent Charles, 87, of Spartanburg, SC, died Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Born October 1, 1928, in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late Harry D. Wimberly, Sr. and Trumon Miles Wimberly. Mrs. Charles was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg and Circle #7. She was formerly employed as a secretary with Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, GMAC Financing, and retired from South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind after 25 years of service. Survivors include her husband, Jesse F. Charles of the home; sons, John Bradley Bessent (Mitzi Zimmerman) of Hopkins, SC and Kenneth Miles Bessent (Dale Petty) of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Jennifer Bessent Bagnal (Matt) of Chapin, SC, Jessica Bessent Major (Kevin) of Ballentine, SC, Julianna Bessent King (Alex) of Kingsport, TN, Sarah Bradley Bessent of Hopkins, SC, Meghan Billings of Annapolis, MD, Kelly Bessent King (Sam) of Charlotte, NC, and Kevin Bessent (Laura) of Beaufort, SC; five great-grandchildren, Ashlynne Bagnal, Addison Bagnal, Grayson Major, Peyton King, and Jack King; stepsons, Ricky W. Charles (Beth) of Spartanburg, SC and Timothy R. Charles (Kelly) of Redondo Beach, CA; step-grandsons, Jason Charles of Yuma, AZ and Jeremy Charles (Laura) of Spartanburg, SC; and step-great-grandchildren, Josephine Charles and Ashley Charles. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Jack Kelly Bessent; sister, Mildred Wimberly Brown Allen; and brothers, John Daniel Wimberly, Charles Pinkney Wimberly, James Leroy Wimberly, and Harry D. Wimberly, Jr. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 9, 2016, in the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, by The Rev. Joanne R. Hull. Visitation will follow in the church Parlor. Burial will be private.
