Frances Amidon

Frances Eugenia McCrary Amidon, 97, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, January 12, 2015, at Summit Hills. She is survived by her children, Suzanne Zoole, Roger Amidon, Jr., Joe Amidon, her five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Roger, and her sister, Emily Broadrick, Frances was born January 14, 1917, in Cochran, GA. She was the daughter of Joseph Henry and Bessie Smith McCrary. She attended and graduated from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. As a young mother, she courageously parented her small children without Roger while he served his country in WWII. Thereafter she returned to school and entered the field of guidance and family counseling where she worked until retirement in 1975. She and Roger then moved to Spartanburg where they were able to remain closer to their children and grandchildren and have lived here since. Frances will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends, including those who cared for her devotedly during her long illness at Summit Hills, and are warmly and so thankfully regarded by her family. We know they loved her and she loved them as well. The family will host a memorial service at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at Central United Methodist Church, 233 N. Church St., Spartanburg, SC 29306, with the Rev. Alex Stevenson officiating. The family will be available for greeting prior to the service at 1:30.
