Florence Pruitt

Mary Florence Spitzer Pruitt, 95, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. She was the daughter of the late Rhoda Isaacs Spitzer and Earl H. Spitzer. She was born in Erwin, TN and lived in Johnson City, TN, Elk Park, NC, and Vilas, NC, before moving to Spartanburg, SC at the age of six. She started schooling at Fremont Elementary and graduated from Fairforest High School. Mrs. Pruitt retired from the Spartanburg County Assessor's office in 1985 after 14 years of service. After retirement she volunteered with several organizations. She volunteered at the American Red Cross for 15 years as a receptionist and filled many positions in Sunday School and Training Union at Southside Baptist Church during her 68 years of membership. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 71 years, Frank H. Pruitt and is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Sherry and Manson Alley of Jacksonville, FL, Mary and Tom McGraw of Spartanburg, SC, and Peggy and Jeff Bannister of Greer, SC; six grandchildren, Sharon Tonkin, Richard Alley, Elizabeth Rebo, Anne Plantin, Graydon Bannister, and Stephen Bannister; five great-grandchildren, Gary Trevellick, Audrey T. Alley, Taylor and Hamilton Alley, and Ella Plantin; and several nephews and nieces. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Frances Cason and Sara S. Satterfield; and two brothers, Earl H. and Norva E. Spitzer, who are survived by their widows, Audrey and Ruby Spitzer. Visitation will be 1:30-2:45 PM Friday, December 11, 2015, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by Dr. Benny Littlejohn. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
