Florence "Tot" Moorhead Hurteau, 104, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, after a brief illness. Born April 11, 1914, in Gaffney, SC, the youngest of nine children, she was the daughter of the late James Longstreet Moorhead and Mary Frances Werts Moorhead and widow of Joseph Wheeler Hurteau. Tot attended LSU Business College where her brother was a professor. She moved to Columbia, SC to work at the War Production Board and later at the SC Highway Department where she met her husband, Joe. Mrs. Hurteau was a longtime member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Columbia, SC. For many years she served on the Altar Guild and volunteered in many activities. She will be remembered for her great sense of humor, love for gardening, and Gamecock football. As a strong-willed personality, she drove until she was 95, maintaining her independence. For the last six years, she was a resident of White Oak Estates and White Oak Manor in Spartanburg. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at both facilities for their loving care. Survivors include her son, James Randall Hurteau and spouse, Lynda; grandson, Douglas James Hurteau and spouse, Erica; two great-grandchildren, Richard Paul Hurteau and Emily Lynn Hurteau; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, September 30, 2018, in the Olney Chapel at The Episcopal Church of the Advent, 141 Advent St., Spartanburg, SC 29302, by The Rev. J.
