Fairlene Underwood

A loving and caring mother and grandmother, Mrs. Fairlene Beaty Underwood "Nana", 82, of Spartanburg and formerly of Lyman, SC, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. There she will be reunited with her family and friends that have gone on before her. Born July 10, 1933, in Gaffney, SC, she was the daughter of the late Willie L. and Effie Harvey Beaty of Arcadia, SC. She was married to Sam Freeman Underwood for 35 years on July 10, 1981. A graduate of Fairforest High School, Mrs. Underwood received her Associate Degree in Industrial Engineering from Spartanburg Technical College. She was employed by S&S Manufacturing on Broadcast Avenue for 17 years before retiring. She was a member of Evangel Cathedral and served in the Music Department for over 25 years. She was also a former member of Park Hills Church of God. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Vickie Haulbrook-Ripaldi (Tom) of Moore, SC; grandchildren, Deanna Brogden (Ron) of Manteo, NC, Jonathan McClure (Lori) of Pacolet, SC, Jessica Roberts and Patrick Haulbrook, both of Orangeburg, SC; great-grandchildren, Olivia Isabella and Amelia Brogden of Manteo, NC, and Addison and Ashton McClure of Pacolet, SC; brother, Grady Beaty (Anne) of Spartanburg, SC; and sister-in-law, Margaret Cox Beaty of Arcadia, SC. She was predeceased by her son, Danny Carol Haulbrook; sister, Margaret McDade (Lewis); great-granddaughters, Emma Rose Brogden and baby McClure; brother and sister-in-laws, Leroy and Julia Beaty, Boyce and Norma Beaty, and Troy Beaty. Visitation will be 3:30 - 4:30 PM Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 5:00 PM at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Clevenger and Pastor Jan King. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303. The family would like to recognize the staff and administration of Summit Hills for their love, care, and concern during her stay. The family is at the home of her grandson, Jonathan McClure.
