Evelyn Young

Evelyn Ketner Young, 75, of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at her home. Born July 12, 1939, in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late John Mitchell Ketner and Grace LaClare Ketner. Mrs. Young's many accomplishments include being the owner/president of Better Homes & Gardens Young & Company, the leading real estate company in Spartanburg, SC, and the number one office in residential sales for over 36 years; co-owner and vice president of Prudential C. Dan Joyner & Young, Spartanburg, SC (1976- 2012); Graduate Realtors Institute (GRI), Certified Residential Specialist (CRS), and Certified Residential Broker (CRB). Special recognitions received include being the First Woman in South Carolina to receive Certified Residential Broker Designation (CRB). Professional accomplishments and memberships: Spartanburg Business & Professional Women's 1994 Career Woman of the Year; Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors for 4 years and Vice Chairman-Membership for 2 years; Spartanburg Board of Realtors past president, vice president, treasurer, and secretary, 1981 Realtor of the Year, 2005 Realtors Hall of Fame; South Carolina Association of Realtors: Regional vice president 2 terms, Board of Directors for 6 years, National Level past State Chairman; Spartanburg Multiple Listing Service Board of Director for 3 years and 1977 president; United States Dept. of Housing & Urban Development Regional Advisory Council member for 3 years and Southeastern Region Appointee; and South Carolina Chamber of Commerce-Board of Directors for 2 terms. Mrs. Young was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg. A woman of strong faith and work ethic, she loved her family and her Lord. She was a mentor to many and Evelyn's enjoyment was their success. Survivors include her loving husband of 57 years, Charles R. Young, Sr.; sons, Ray Young (Leslie), Scott Young (Rhonda), and Todd Young (Sonya), all of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Jeff Young (Stephanie) of Spartanburg, T.J. Young of Myrtle Beach, Austin Young of Atlanta, GA, Tyler Young of Myrtle Beach, Carolina Young, Hope Young, and Tray Young, all of Spartanburg; great-grandchildren, Luke Young and Natalie Young, both of Spartanburg; and brother, John M. Ketner, Jr. of Spartanburg. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one brother and three sisters. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, December 4, 2014, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 3:00 PM Friday, December 5, 2014, at First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, 250 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29306, by the Rev. Dr. Donald J. Wilton and the Rev. Sal Barone. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
