Evelyn Taylor Pettit, 95, of Spartanburg, SC, died Wednesday, June 22, 2022. Born February 18, 1927 in Woodruff, SC, she was the daughter of the late Jonas Alexander and Annie Mae Poole Taylor, and was the widow of William Dogan Pettit.
Evelyn was retired from The Aug. W. Smith department store. She was a member of Morningside Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir and the Ruth Class.
Evelyn was one of seven children and loved to spend time with her family. An entertainer at heart, who had a gift of arranging flowers. The Best Southern cook, she was especially well-known for her delicious pound cake.
Survivors include her son, Fred Pettit (Yvonne), her daughters, Andrea Shurburtt (Greg) and Tina Sapp (Dick), her grandsons, Franklin Pettit (Leah), John Pettit, Ben Pettit (Stacy) Jonathan Shurburtt (Jordan) and Taylor Sapp, her granddaughters, Jacquelyn Burkhead (Jason), Lauren Anthony (Dunk) and Katie Rayburn (Matt), 13 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, all of Spartanburg, SC; and her sister, Betty Forrester Burgess of Buffalo, SC.
Visitation will be 2:00 – 2:45 pm Sunday, June 26, 2022 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A funeral service will be at 3:00 pm at the chapel, conducted by The Rev. Jack Dodds and The Rev. Matt Rayburn. Burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
