Evelyn Bennett Ponder Parker, of Spartanburg, SC, died Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at RoseCrest Community Healthcare, Inman, SC. Born in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late Romey J. and Nettie Ruth Byars Bennett. Mrs. Parker was a member of Powell Presbyterian Church and the church choir. She loved to paint and sew and also enjoyed bird watching. She retired from nursing with Magnolia Manor. Surviving are her husband of 22 years, Grady L. Parker; children, Debra Perry, Trina Strong, and Laurie Cox (Kenneth), all of Spartanburg, SC; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Donnie Bennett; and sisters, Marlene Haynes, Gayle McDowell, and Kathy Oshige. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Vance Ponder. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM Saturday, December 2, 2017, at Powell Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, at the church, conducted by The Rev. Bruce Tjelta. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Powell Presbyterian Church, 119 County Road, Spartanburg, SC 29301.
