Evelyn Allen "Nanny: Hutchins, 81, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 24, 2009, after a brief illness. She was born May 21, 1928, in Spartanburg County, SC. She was a daughter of the late Herbert Lee and Minnie Lou Stacey Allen and the wife of the late William Henry Hutchins. She attended United Baptist Church on Valley Falls Road where she enjoyed her Ruth Sunday school Class and her lunches with "The Birthday Girls". She enjoyed the many friends she made while serving as Hostess at The Waffle House (Hearon Circle), and also retired from Butte Knit. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Merck and husband Eddie of Moore, and Karen Washburn and husband Don of Pauline; a brother Hubert Allen of Gaffney; and a sister-in-law, Mattie Allen of Spartanburg. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Cam Cole (Darrell), Blandin Merck (Lori), and Kyle Kirby; six great- grandchildren, Gralyn, Dray, and Shea Cole, and William, Bowen and Mills Caroline Merck. She was predeceased by a brother Harlen J. Allen. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Sunday, December 27, 2009, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 pm at the chapel conducted by Rev. Jack Weaver. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bethlehem Baptist Church Building Fund, 797 Old Georgia Road, Moore, SC 29369; or to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615. The family is at the home of her daughter, Sharon Merck, 183 Sundyal Drive, Moore, SC 29369.
