Evelyn Cobb Gardner passed away on Friday, August 9, 2013 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late Roy Edward and Sally Porter Cobb. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, Lloyd Edwin Gardner. She was a longtime employee of Aug W. Smith Company, where she worked in the accounting department. She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Adams and her husband Gene and Mellnee Buchheit all of Spartanburg; sister, Sara C. Steadman and brother-in-law, John; seven grandchildren, Joe, Heather, and Julie Adams, Jessica Spigner, William, Phil and Bonnie Buchheit; and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers, Ralph Cobb of Charleston and Jack Cobb of Spartanburg; and son-in-law, William Buchheit also of Spartanburg. She was a faithful, dedicated member of Southside Baptist Church for over 60 years, where she was a member (and former President) of the Gleaners Sunday School Class. She fulfilled her love of singing by being a cherished member of the church choir for many years. She was a member of the Woodland Gardeners and served on the executive committee of the Spartanburg Garden Club Council. She was a volunteer at Hatcher Gardens, and volunteered countless hours at Mary Black Hospital. She brought immeasurable joy to all of those around her with her wonderful sense of humor, love of life and ever positive attitude. Above all, she was kind; and she will always be remembered for her steadfast devotion to her family and friends. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to caregivers, Shirleen Hughes, Norene Warner, and Sharon Ervin, who in conjunction with granddaughter, Julie Adams, provided exceptional in-home care. Visitation will be held at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel Sunday, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307, August 11, 2013 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at Southside Baptist Church, 316 South Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306, on Monday, August 12, 2013 at 11:00 AM, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Schuyler Peterson. Burial will be immediately thereafter at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
